General Description

Samsung Austin Semiconductor is seeking a Senior Manager of Public Relations & Communications who will collaborate with senior management to establish communications strategies, and execute communication initiatives in order to promote the corporate brand. A successful candidate will play a leading role in communicating our organizational vision, accomplishments and capabilities to a wide audience, including by not limited to, customers, government, media, investors, employees and other stakeholders. This position reports to the CFO.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead, develop and implement a strategic communications plan and media strategy that aligns with company goals and objectives.

  • Oversee all media activities including fielding media inquiries, facilitating media interviews, and other execution activities.

  • Manage the crisis communications function following Crisis Communications Plan protocols.

  • Identify and secure speaking engagements, industry workgroups and event participation to further company and executive brand development.

  • Develop relationships with government, media, employees and stakeholders in the organization.

  • Be the main community affairs representative for SAS in the Central Texas region.

  • Strategically select and manage the nonprofit and civic organizations that Samsung Austin should support.

  • Prepare company spokespeople for media interviews providing briefing documents, media training and talking points.

  • Develop and track key metrics for communications and media effectiveness and communicate to senior leadership.

  • Build and foster collaborative relationships with other departments within the organization to stay informed and abreast of new initiatives, products, and services.

  • Work with Internal Communications function to provide strategy and communicate initiatives effectively.

Team Development/Management:

  • Oversee the day-to-day activities of the communications and community affairs team including budgeting, planning and staff development.

  • Recruit and manage appropriate communications team or PR agencies to support the development and execution of the communications strategy.

  • Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.

  • Establish and monitor staff performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, conduct annual performance appraisals, and administer salary adjustments.

Necessary Skills / Attributes

  • A minimum of eight years of experience in planning, writing, editing, and production of press releases, and other print publications and material in a PR or Communications role.

  • A minimum of seven years of experience in supervising, mentoring, and coaching a team of community and communications specialists.

  • Five years of experience in crisis management and/or crisis communications, with demonstrated ability to make sound decisions in a fast-changing environment.

  • Demonstrates skill and comfort in proactively building relationships with top-tier partners, and in successfully positioning subject matter with the media to achieve national recognition.

  • Strong project management skills and ability to lead cross-functional teams.

  • Strong organizational skills with ability to handle multiple projects and deadline pressures.

  • Demonstrates experience and leadership in managing comprehensive strategic internal and external communications, media relations and marketing programs to advance the organization’s mission and goals.

  • Exceptional written, oral, inter-personal and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with senior management, Board of Directors, staff and external audiences.

  • Superior management skills; ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers.

  • Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills, including ability to anticipate and strong negotiation and conflict resolution.

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related field or equivalent experience is required.

  • Proven experience working with media and government entities a must

  • Previous high tech experience preferred.
