Purpose

Support, coordinate, and direct maintenance integration and testing activities of unique underwater acoustic sensors and systems. Assist with development and evaluation of underwater acoustic system operator display interfaces, tools and training materials.

Essential Functions

Participate as a member of and assist in the coordination of an integrated team of Navy, contractor and laboratory personnel and maintain schedule for the development, installation, maintenance and testing for unique underwater sensors. Provide field engineering support; use manuals and automated electronic tools to troubleshoot, assemble and repair electromechanical assemblies, computers and computer networks. Participate in operator training. Participate in system testing, maintenance and training onboard an Operational Training Platform and/or on US Navy platforms. Participate in formal documentation through the development of test and maintenance procedures, formal work packages and training materials. Perform liaison tasks with sponsoring organizations and prepare and present formal progress and status briefs covering on-going activities. Establish working relationships with vendors, program sponsors, project partner organizations, and system operators from the US Navy. Assist Supervisor and Engineers as required, travel as required.

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree and 6 years of related experience in the test, evaluation and operation of sophisticated Navy systems, including underwater acoustic systems. Demonstrated ability to organize, plan, and execute installation, test and maintenance procedures of complex systems using formal Navy systems and processes. Demonstrated knowledge of sonar system operations, maintenance and training, including expertise in developing and applying system level operation, maintenance and troubleshooting procedures, including use of electrical drawings/schematics, technical manuals and test equipment. Evidence of skills in the following areas: working with new technologies, being highly organized, planning and coordinating multiple tasks, effective time management, attention to detail, effective problem solving skills, using excellent judgment, working independently with sensitive and confidential information, and maintaining a professional demeanor. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Ten or more years of experience in the operation, testing, maintenance and repair of underwater acoustic sensor systems. Demonstrated ability to work to interact effectively and coordinate activities with Navy enlisted personnel and officers as well as contractor system providers. Familiarity with U.S. Navy (JFMM and 3M) processes and procedures for the installation, test, maintenance, repair and removal of electronics equipment. Familiarity with U.S. Navy processes and procedures for the installation, test, maintenance, repair and removal of electronics equipment, including Temporary Alteration (TEMPALT) and Ship Alteration (SHIPALT) processes. Cumulative GPA of 3.0.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
