Our Opportunity:

At Schwab, the Office of the CTO (OCTO) is responsible for defining, publishing and managing the way that Schwab delivers and run solutions for Schwab’s clients. The organization works with the thousands of technologists and the business to ensure that Schwab produces scalable, secure, high-quality product and operations. The Office of the CTO is organized into departments that are responsible for Enterprise Architecture, Application and Platform Architecture, Infrastructure Architecture, the Delivery Experience, and Technology Strategy.

Reporting to the VP of Delivery Experience, the Managing Director of Tools is responsible for leading the development and support of the tools that comprise the development pipeline. These tools include planning, design, coding, testing and release management for all Schwab solutions. Success is defined by the consistent and effective delivery of self-service continuous integration, testing and delivery tools to the thousands of technologists that deliver client value. This team includes delivery, support and strategic responsibility for the entire firm.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead engineers in the continued investment in Schwab’s CI/CD pipeline

  • Lead a support organization, serving the firm and eliminating issues with the CI/CD pipeline and infrastructure

  • Partner with the Agile team, Tools architect and other stakeholders to develop the pipeline as a product

  • Define and execute on a roadmap of continuous improvement in features, quality and self-service to the pipeline

  • Partner with the Agile transformation leader, the Tools architect and other members of the Delivery Experience team to deliver the best experience to Schwab technologists, in turn delivering better quality to Schwab clients, faster

  • Partner with the entire Agile community to maintain and evolve the infrastructure to support Schwab’s Agile transformation

  • Partner with the Office of the CTO, Project Services organization and Product Owners in the business to enable product and portfolio planning at scale and integrated into Schwab’s SDLC

  • Champion project management rigor and provides the processes, structures, and tools for management of OCTO work streams.

What you have:

  • Minimum 10 years technology and/or business operations experience

  • 7+ years of people management experience with at least 20 staff

  • Strong/proven experience in leading engineering/development

  • Strong/Proven experience in leading support teams

  • Successful experience with Agile, specifically Kanban & Scrum

  • Comfort working with highly technical architects

  • Firsthand knowledge and leadership in CI/CD

  • Experience driving adoption of common development tool sets such as the Atlassian tool Suite (i.e. Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, and Bamboo) is preferred.

  • Experience with testing solutions such as Quality Center, Quick Test Pro, Zephyr, Selenium, Cucumber, etc. is a plus

  • Experience with enterprise agile tools (i.e. VersionOne, Rally/CA Agile Central, or AgileCraft) and PPM tools (i.e. Clarity/CA PPM, Daptiv, or MS Project Server) is preferred

  • Proven track record in successfully managing large scale technology implementation efforts, preferably with development, testing, and/or Agile tools

  • Senior management presence and emotionally mature with potential to grow

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with proven track record of ability to communicate to multiple audiences

  • Ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization to remove barriers to the adoption of development tooling

  • Experience managing large and complex technology vendor relationships.

  • Open to industry, but required experience in large-scale, services-oriented, global business operating under compliance and regulatory requirements

  • Demonstrated strategic thinker with the ability to develop long term plans and effectively execute

  • Commitment to excellence in service delivery

  • Bachelor’s degree, or higher, in Engineering preferred
